History & Culture

Growth History

Capstone originally formed in 1996 as the corporate finance practice of Arthur Andersen where we built one of the most successful practices in the country.  In 2002, we acquired that practice and re-branded it as Capstone.  After the first year, Capstone was recognized as one of the Top 20 middle market investment banking firms in the US.

With that foundation, we raised capital to implement an aggressive growth strategy.  Capstone fueled its early success with some of the industry’s brightest talent.  After a period of organic growth, we launched an acquisition strategy to expand our footprint and enhance both our service offerings and industry coverage capabilities.

In 2010, Capstone acquired Morgan Stanley’s middle market M&A practice.  We announced the launch of our corporate restructuring practice in 2011, followed closely by the acquisition of SagePoint Advisors, a dedicated technology M&A boutique, in 2012.  We then acquired a European beachhead in London with Grenport Ltd (2013) and a southeastern US presence with EQV Capital (2014).  Today, Capstone operates on a unified basis across 10 offices.

Firm Culture

Capstone is results oriented.  We take pride in our client performance ratings and the value we create. Our bullish approach is simple: partner with clients where we are certain our capabilities can have a significant impact.  As a team, we subscribe to professional values we feel make a difference in our client relationships and the quality of our representation.
